Passport Procrastinators Beware!

June 20th 2007
Although the U.S. Departments of State and Homeland Security recently announced temporary accommodations for travelers who have applied for but have not yet received their passports, U.S. citizens traveling by air to Canada, Mexico, Bermuda and other Caribbean countries must still meet their entry requirements.

Due to longer processing times for passport applications spurred by record-breaking demand, Americans can re-enter the U.S. by air from Canada, Mexico, Bermuda and the Caribbean by presentation of a government issued photo I.D. and Department of State official proof of application for a passport now through September 30, 2007.

As early as January 1, 2008, U.S. citizens traveling between the U.S. and Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda by land or sea (including ferries), may be required to present a valid U.S. passport or other documents as determined by the Department of Homeland Security.

Passport procrastinators are at risk for paying higher fees for expedited services or may have to pay costly cancellation penalties if they cannot provide the required documentation to board their plane or cruise ship.

If saving time and money isn’t incentive enough for the passport procrastinators, they can still enjoy many domestic travel opportunities by contacting a knowledgeable and professional Cruise Planners agent toll-free at 866-278-9333 for last-minute specials on Hawaiian cruises or Mississippi River steamboat adventures.
